A lingering hope of you

November 17, 2009

By Helms Jackson

Blinking incessantly (black, yellow green)
Glowing in silence the web can be seen
Surely death is imminent for the trapped firefly and me
Though I have a lingering hope of you.

The sun has set through the leaves once more
A ribbon, like chains, adorns the door
The forest are paved, the concrete is poured
So don’t ever question the man.

You refuse to give me what I want
In my mind your glow always will haunt
The area of life where I am to flaunt
Testosterone, hypocricy and hate.

A firefly is caught in a spider’s web
As motorcycles run the high road’s crest
I sit on my porch smoking cigarettes
With a lingering hope of you.
